My alarming discovery on Boko Haram – Obasanjo

Image
By Alia Chiemena. U FormerPresident Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday, disclosed why Boko Haram insurgency was launched in the North-eastern part of Nigeria. This discovery, he said, was made while conducting a research for his degree in Christian Theology. According to him, abject poverty arising Nigeria’s corrupt system led to the formation of kick against western education otherwise known as Boko Haram. His words: “One of the reasons that members of the extremist group – Boko Haram, gave for their insurrection is that they became disillusioned when they saw how corrupt that Western educated leaders were. According to them, if those who occupied government offices by virtue of their Western education would corruptly enrich themselves and deprive others of the basic things of life, then that education is ‘haram’ which means forbidden.” “I am told that when Mohammed Yusuf, the original leader of Boko Haram and his early followers first started, they all gathered and tore their certif...

Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0

Image
By Alia Chiemena. U Coach Pep Guardiola of Manchester City may have been vindicated for describing Tottenham Hotspurs FC as a Harry Kane team as Manchester United wins Spurs 1-0 at Old Trafford without the visito’s top striker. Kane. A late goal from Anthony Martial who came off the bench was all Manchester United needed to defeat a 1-0 win over Premier League title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday. Victory saw United, who had started the day ahead of Spurs on goal difference alone, go three points clear of their London rivals. France international Martial, currently battling to win a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho, did his chances no harm with the manner of his 81st minute winning goal, even if it was a curiously direct affair. A long kick forward by goalkeeper David De Gea was headed on by Romelu Lukaku and Martial sprinted away from the Spurs back line before calmly beating the keeper with an excellent finish. It was a disappointing wa...

BREAKING News: Catalonia Declares Independence From Spain

Image
By Alia Chiemena .U The Catalan regional parliament has voted to declare independence from Spain, just as the Spanish government appears set to impose direct rule. The move was backed 70-10 in a ballot boycotted by opposition MPs. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier told senators direct rule was needed to return "law, democracy and stability" to Catalonia. The crisis began when Catalans backed independence in a disputed vote earlier this month. The Catalan government said that of the 43% of potential voters who took part in the referendum, 90% were in favour of independence. But Spain's Constitutional Court had ruled the vote illegal. In all, the motion declaring independence was approved with 70 in favour, 10 against and two abstentions in the 135-seat chamber. Immediately afterwards, Mr Rajoy called for all Spaniards to remain calm, promising to "restore legality" to Catalonia. Spain's Senate is still to vote on whether for the first t...

Argentine coach says FIFA ranking not Eagles’ true quality

Image
The Argentina national team coach Jorge Sampaoli has backed one of the best teams in Africa, Super Eagles of Nigeria to prove the FIFA Ranking wrong. The 57-year-old while backing the Argentina Football Association’s decision to set up a friendly against a 41st ranked Nigeria, said the ranking is not the true reflection of the technically and physically strong Gernot Rohr tutored side. The former Chilean national team coach also praised Nigeria as one of the best teams, despite being 5th in the African ranking. “For now, they are one of the best teams in Africa, which tells a lot about their qualities. We are expecting a very challenging game from Nigeria. They are good in several ways. “The FIFA ranking sometimes do not reflect the real situation of a nation’s playing strength, they beat the African champions convincingly in the qualifiers, which shows how good they are and we must approach the match with all seriousness,” Sampoli concluded. The November 14th friendly between ...
Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has broken his silence on the controversial N7.5 billion allegedly demanded by his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, confirming same to be true. In reaction, Obi dismissed the claims, and described Obiano as a desperate man not sure of survival and therefore, clutching at straws. There have accusations and denials from the aides of both the governor and Obi, over the issue, with Obi personally denying ever making such demand, when he left over N75 billion for his successor while leaving office. Addressing party faithful at Ezechima Primary School, Onitsha, during the inauguration of his re-election campaign in Onitsha North Council Area, Obiano said clarification on the matter became imperative because of recent accusations against him by the former governor. Obiano stated that he refused to pay the N7.5 billion, which, according to him, Obi claimed to be for his election campaigns in 2013, because of his strong belief that “public funds should...
